Best Pizza: Yann Debelle de Montby’s Black Pizza at Nene, Shanghai.
Yann Debelle de Montby was born in Morocco and grew up in France. He currently lives in Shanghai where he founded “Dream Manufacturer”, an interior design consultancy studio. He has recently become a vegetarian and we asked him to tell us about his relationship with pizza.
“I’ve lived in Shanghai since 2006, after spending 10 years in London relaunching Berluti and the Dunhill.
I am, and always have been, a dreamer, so when I decided to create my own consultancy studio specializing in designing and constructing the interiors of private houses and unique spaces, I naturally named my new company "Dream Manufacturer".
My Chinese clients had decided to trust me, I was very lucky to be the right person in the right place at the right time. Shanghai is a truly exhilarating city, where everything happens very fast!
My favorite pizza in the city has to be the black pizza from Italian restaurant Nene, in Yong Foo Lu.
But since becoming a vegetarian over a year ago, I have experimented with and cooked some very interesting pizzas. The biggest surprise was a pizza I made using grated cauliflower to make the base... it was super healthy and actually very good!”
